Hemingway drink recipe: A taste of history
If you're a fan of classic cocktails, then the Hemingway drink is a must-try. This refreshing and citrusy cocktail has an interesting history that dates back to the famous writer Ernest Hemingway.
The origins of the Hemingway drink can be traced back to Cuba in the 1930s. It was during this time that Ernest Hemingway frequented La Floridita, a popular bar in Havana known for its delicious cocktails. Legend has it that Hemingway had a special request for his favorite bartender at La Floridita - he wanted a daiquiri with no sugar and double the rum.
And so, the "Papa Doble" or "Hemingway Special" was born. This unique twist on the classic daiquiri became one of Hemingway's favorite drinks and is now enjoyed by cocktail enthusiasts around the world.
To make your own version of the Hemingway drink, you'll need:
- 2 oz white rum
- 1/2 oz maraschino liqueur
- 3/4 oz grapefruit juice
- 1/2 oz lime juice
Simply combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a chilled glass and garnish with a slice of grapefruit or lime.
The result is a tart and tangy cocktail that perfectly balances sweet, sour, and bitter flavors. The addition of maraschino liqueur adds depth to the drink while highlighting its citrus notes.
Whether you're sipping on this iconic cocktail at home or enjoying it at your favorite bar, raise your glass to Ernest Hemingway and toast to his enduring legacy through this delicious concoction. Cheers!
